Why USA
- USA is the 3rd largest country in the world and the most preferred destination for overseas studies.

- Being a vast country, USA is home for a wide variety of climate, ranging from bitter cold winters to sweltering hot summers. Few places like Florida has tropical climate. Hence knowing in advance about the place of stay can help students to plan better.
Living in the USA?
- USA has a very diverse culture, influenced by Latin American, African, Western and Asian cultures.
- American cuisine is highly influenced by the Latin American and Western food culture. Being an amalgamation of very diverse cultural influences, one can find food of their preferences in almost every part of USA.
- USA is one of the safest countries in the world with a very high level of safety measures for its citizens and students.
- USA has beast health care system in the world with almost every campus having general medical facilities and round the clock resident doctors. The students must have a medical insurance to avil all these facilities in case of any exigency.
Fees and Living Expenses
- The fees structures for UG and PG courses varies from 20,000 USD ( Approx. 14 lacs INR) to 55,000 USD per annum. As usual, arts and humanities are the cheaper ones as compared to Science, computer, engineering and medical degree programs.
- On an average, the per annum living expenses will come around 15,000 USD. The bigger cities like NYC, Boston etc will obviously have higher living expenses.
Visa process
- Before applying for a visa, the student needs to have an I-20 from a recognized US university and an active SEVIS number.
- The student visa is issued over a face of face interview at the USA counselor office in their country.
- The visa process typically takes 2 days with the Biometric appointment on the 1st day and the main visa interview on the 2nd day. Most of the decisions are taken on the spot, however, few cases which need further information can take anything between 1 week to 1 month. Although the F1 study permit is given for 5 years the student will need to maintain their SEVIS status to keep their visa valid.

Accommodation
- Most of the US colleges and universities offer hostel facilities, on or off campus. Staying on campus can be an important step to become the part of the community. On campus facilities are mostly dorms or shared apartments with common dining and kitchen areas.
- Like most of the other countries, you cannot get prohibited items to the country, the details are mentioned during visa processes. Its always good to be on the side of law to enjoy a hassle free life during the course duration and further if one decides to take a job in the same country.
- Indian students normally prefer to stay off campus on sharing or individual basis. A lot of universities provide assistance to rent accommodation off campus. Interestingly, the off campus accommodation is cheaper than on campus one.
- Like India, to open a bank account in USA, the student will need the passport copy with a valid visa and the I-94 card issued at the port of entry. Accounts can be opened online or by visiting a bank branch. The universities will normally assist students in account opening and other formalities during the orientation week.
Placement and employment
- Being the best and number one in everything, USA offers a wide range of placement opportunity to the passing and deserving students.
- Students with valid F1 visa has options to take up on campus part time job for upto 20 hours per week.
- After competing 9 months in the campus, the student becomes eligible for off campus work placement. This is called OPT and is valid for 12 months in total.
